Primary Purpose:

Coordinate the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program. Oversee and provide high standards of instructional service. Ensure compliance with district policies, success of instructional programs, and operation of total program. Collaborate with campus administrators to ensure coordination of instruction between home campusesand the DAEP.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Standard Texas Teaching Certificate

 

Contract Days: 187 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to organize and coordinate districtwide program

Ability to interpret data

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to implement policy and procedures

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Familiarity with disciplinary alternative school rules and regulations

 

Experience:

Two years experience as a classroom teacher

Experience in leadership roles

  4. Ensures that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.

 

Instructional Management

 

  1. Assume responsibility for the attendance, progress, conduct and health of students and supervise the maintenance of accurate records for each student in each of these areas
  1. Directs educational services to meet students’ needs.
  2. Collaborates with home campuses to ensure curricular and instructional alignment.
  3. Ensures that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and the findings are used to improve program effectiveness.
  4. Facilitates the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
  5. Serves as administrator of admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committees as needed.
  6. Attends in-take Meetings on the Campus.

 

Personnel Management

 

  1. Develops training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation in the area of programs.
  2. Evaluates job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.

 

Student Management

  1. Demonstrates support for student management policies and expected student behavior related to DAEP.
  2. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issues.

 

Management of Fiscal, Administrative, & Facilities Functions

 

  1. Directs and manages the DAEP and facilities to ensure a clean, orderly and safe campus.
  2. Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy in the area of alternative education.
  3. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Develops professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
  2. Uses information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the appraisal process, evaluative feedback from supervisors, and professional development programs to improve performance.
  3. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serves as a role model for all staff.

 

 

School or Community Relations

  1. Articulates the district’s mission and goals in the area of alternative education to the community to solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  2. Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

 

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff assigned to campus, including teacher(s) and instructional aide(s).
